UK – Japan Nuclear Decommissioning Workshop 5-9 February 2019

The JUNO network, EPSRC and the Nuclear Safety Research Association (NSRA) of Japan are sponsoring a UK – Japan workshop to build  bilateral collaboration in radioactive waste management and decommissioning.  The workshop will be held in Japan, 5-9 February 2019. Expressions of Interest are invited from those willing to participate in the workshop, which will focus on decommissioning and waste management challenges.

The cost of attendance at the workshop will be supported by NSRA.  Financial support is also available as a contribution toward additional caring requirements of participants, which may be incurred as a result of overseas travel and staying away from home.

The deadline for applications is 16.00 on 13 December 2018.

The JUNO network is visiting Japan this week, working with the Science & Innovation Network of the UK Embassy in Japan and EPSRC, in leading the UK Civil Nuclear Energy Mission to Japan, involving a delegation of 20 leading researchers.  The programme of events includes:

Sunday 26 March: collaboration building workshop with counterparts from Japan, hosted by Japan Science & Technology Agency.

Monday 27 March: Travelling to Iwaki and preparation for visit to Fukushima Dai-ici site.

Tuesday 28 March: visit and tour of Fukushima Dai-ici site.

Wednesday 29 March: attend and present at Atomic Energy Society of Japan annual Spring Meeting, at Tokai University.

Thursday 30 March: collaboration building meetings with Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and Japan Atomic Energy Agency.
